Bee smoker (also called smokers)a re used by bee keepers to calm the bees while doing hive checks or collecting honey. It's not because the bees like smoke, it is because smoke masks alarm pheromones that bees secrete. The bees can't pick up the freaked out bees' pheromones and they don't freak out too. So they just sit going, "Everything's fine", pretty much.
